First things first: about 3 weeks of summer vacation in Germany meant a little break from doing and posting stationery and pen reviews. Vacation is now over, and everyday pen-life is back. Sure enough, such a long break asks for…

The Kaweco Dia2 is an interesting pen model whose vintage appearance refers back to the origin of the original Kaweco Dia model from the 1920s. Especially the knurling on the pens end and on the cap reinforces this vintage feel.…

This version of @leuchtturm1917 here is in the „Rising Sun“ Orange, perfect for a good ole autumn vibes continuation 🎃🍂🍊.

It is in dot grid, which is my favorite beside the blank. It’s also in the super cool B6+ format. I have used my @ateliersphileas Passepartout the last few months, and really come to like and appreciate that format. So super excited to now try it in a poppy colored orange hardcover through autumn and winter. This should last me a good 3-4 months or so. ✨✌🏼

I’ve been carrying notebooks around for as long as I’ve been carrying notebooks around for as long as I can remember. And somehow, despite all the digital tools available today, I can’t imagine not having one nearby.

Not because I think paper is better than digital. I use both, and they serve different purposes.

But there’s something about putting pen to paper that I find hard to replace. The way a thought develops as you write. The freedom to scribble, cross things out, draw arrows, or just let your mind wander.

And having an excuse to use another fountain pen and ink certainly doesn’t hurt. 😄

What about you? Do you still carry a notebook? And what do you use it for?

It always starts with one. One nice fountain pen. It always starts with one.

One nice fountain pen. Maybe one bottle of ink. A decent notebook.

That should be enough, right?

Then you discover nib sizes. Different filling systems. Japanese pens. Vintage pens. Shading. Sheen. Paper that somehow makes the same ink look completely different…

And before you know it, you’re explaining why that new pen you wanna buy is obviously nothing like the other twelve. Or 78. 😄

So, where are you on the rabbit-hole journey? One pen, a carefully curated few — or have you stopped counting?

Okay, the reason why I loaded this week’s pen (the Okay, the reason why I loaded this week’s pen (the Waldmann Edelfeder there in the background) with some GvFC Hazelnut Brown cartridges is not only that it’s a really nice ink and aligns with my current knack for autumny ink colors.

It’s maybe also a bit because I normally tend to use bottled ink - and then I found these cartridges that I have since years (but not decades, tbh)…and somehow I think I might need to use them up before they manage to convert into pigment porridge 🥣 🫟😂.

Am like 50ish pages into the book „The Pen: A Huma Am like 50ish pages into the book „The Pen: A Human History“. Just past the bits on how the industry has moved from the quill over steel-nibbed dip pens to the more modern incarnation of what today is known as a fountain pen („fountain“ in the sense of „never-ending“ ink supply - at least relative to a dip pen).

Very lovely read so far - and can’t wait to read the next few chapters. 📚✒️

Am moving a lil slow here, as I have to fantastic habit of always reading something between 3-10 books in parallel 😂. Get too bored by only one or two reads…but of course it makes the per-book progress a lil slow…I‘m okay with that ✨

A slightly different post is live on Scrively toda A slightly different post is live on Scrively today 📓✒️

Usually, I’m the one asking the questions and putting stationery through its paces.

This time, the team at @etchr_lab turned the tables and interviewed me about one of my favourite topics: what actually makes a good notebook?

We talked about paper and fountain pens, notebook formats, lay-flat construction, the little details that make a notebook work in daily life — and, of course, that strangely satisfying moment of starting a fresh one.

If you’re into notebooks, paper and the whole analogue writing rabbit hole, have a read.

I’m guilty of this, too. Getting a beautiful note I’m guilty of this, too.

Getting a beautiful notebook and waiting for something “worthy” of the first page. Keeping that special ink for the right occasion. Being just a little too careful with a pen I actually bought because I wanted to use it.

But stationery gets better when it becomes part of your life.

Scratches happen. Leather develops a patina. Notebooks get messy. Pens pick up memories.

So: use the good stuff.

Let’s normalize using that expensive ink on a rainy Tuesday to write down the grocery list on a piece of old newspaper. ✒️ ✌🏼
