It’s been about two years ago that I had reviewed the Pelikan M805 Stresemann. The pen back then was a loaner. In the meantime, I have my own, and I do plan to give that pen a re-review towards the end of this year. What I can already say is that I do hold it with legendary Peter Twydle, saying that the M805 is “the best fountain pen in the world”. While it is no secret to my more frequent readers and viewers that my personal “best fountain pen in the world” is the Lamy 2000, the M800 – and especially the palladium trimmed M805 – ranges really close for me. I love this pen to bits; it’s probably my 2nd favorite pen.
Having that said, I immediately jumped at the opportunity of reviewing one of the recent M80X special edition releases of Pelikan: not the M800 Renaissance Brown, but the M805 Ocean Swirl. While this pen has been received with mixed voices in the fountain pen community, especially due to the marketing pictures not doing justice to the real appearance of the pen (and also due to the lack of an ink-window), I can say that the pen – if you like the color theme – is a stunner when seen in person: a super diverse, rich turquoise marbling with an incredible amount of depth to it.
As with many of the limited edition Pelikans, I do expect the pen to be sold rather quickly. If you like the pen, I’d recommend you to get one while they are still quite readily available, since 2nd hand-market prices later on are often quite exorbitant – especially after some years.
Now check out the video-review below, which is, as always, preceded by some quick facts. Again, I hope the review is helpful and that you enjoy watching it!
