Apparently it has been about a year since I had a post about some pencil related stuff on these pages here – even though pencils are my second favourite writing implement, right after fountain pens. To be honest, I was a little shocked myself when I looked this up and got aware of it. Well, while my memory can be faulty, luring me into a shorter subjective time span, it’s hard to fool the hard facts of my WordPress database.
Having that said, I am glad that Noah of Brahman Design has contacted me a while back, asking me whether I might be interested in reviewing the Høvel pencil plane sharpener. I had seen the Høvel before on Instagram and found it to be an interesting tool and idea – having a pencil sharpener that works just like a plane – so I gladly agreed to the idea of checking this thing out. Find out what I think of it and how it works in the video review below!
The video is, as always, preceded by some quick facts. Again, I hope the review is helpful and that you enjoy watching it!
Quick Facts
- Høvel pencil plane sharpener (made from brass)
- Wooden plane base
- Price: ca. 50£ (+20£) for the wooden base

Thank you for your review of this tool! I’m a pencil user, and it seems to me if you have non-standard sized pencils, you would find this sharpener very useful.
Thanks for your comment, Denise! The use case that you point out here is indeed a good one for the Høvel!
I bought this product for Christmas. It is absolutely terrible. Very difficult to use and very messy do not get this.
