Lamy is a well known and widely available pen maker. The Safari is one of the most successful pens ever (and I was lucky enough to interview its designer Wolfgang Fabian). Quite naturally, there have been quite a few Lamy product reviews here on those pages over the past years.

Most of Lamys fountain pens do come with steel nibs. There is only very few exceptions, such as the Lamy 2000, that come with dedicated gold nibs. However, Lamy does also make a gold nib that could be used as a replacement and/or upgrade for most of its steel nibbed pens – and that nib is the so called “Z55”. Plus this nib also comes pre-installed on a few of the higher line pens such as the Imporium, Dialog, or cp1 palladium.

Since many people are only used to the omnipresent steel nibs, and since I have also repeatedly received questions as to what the gold nib is like and whether it is worth it, I am happy to now be able to bring to you a review of the Z55 gold nib.
