Video-Review: Montblanc Heritage ‘Rouge et Noir’ (SE)

Montblanc is a very interesting (pen) maker in many ways. One of the ways I find particularly noticeable is that their cigar shaped 146 & 149 Meisterstück series pens are probably the only model(s) that most people know well and associate with the brand – at least outside the more invested pen community.

You see, with other brands, say Lamy or Pelikan or Parker, people normally know – or at least recognise – quite a few models. With Montblanc, this is pretty much limited to the 146, the 149, and yeah, maybe the Starwalker. Most of the other things they make are special and limited editions – often dedicated to public figures like poets, painters, musicians, politicians, etc. And often rather expensive, which is maybe one reason why these models are less known.

Another reason why some of these other Montblanc models may be less known is that their design is often also rather unconventional; or even peculiar. There are by and large only two models that come to mind that are – beside the ones mentioned above – more or less well frequented over the Instagram’s etc. of this world. And these are the Montblanc Heritage 1912 and the Montblanc Heritage Rouge et Noir.

The latter is the pen that I’ll review down below. The Rouge et Noir Heritage fountain pen is inspired by one of the first safety filler fountain pens made by the brand in the beginning of the 1900s. Like quite a few of the pens of around that time, it features a longer, slimmer silhouette and sports a snake clip (that is aged by a galvanic process). The off-white snow cap completes the vintage appearance.

Before we hop into the review, I would like to take the opportunity to thank Appelboompennen for supporting the review of this pen. You can also buy the Montblanc Heritage ‘Rouge et Noir’ (SE) in their webshop (no affiliate – just a friendly pointer).
